Grounding Rituals with Crystals

We talk about staying grounded quite a bit here at Pretty Spirits, but what does that even mean?

Who Needs Grounding?

It’s a basic human need to be connected to the Earth. If you find yourself feeling spaced out, ruminating about the past or anxious about the future, grounding is in order. This practice brings us back to our physical reality in the here and now, reconnects us with our bodies and clears our minds so we can focus on what we can control. You’ll find yourself better equipped to take on the world around you when you are grounded and steady in who you are.

Best Crystals for Grounding

We’ll get into grounding exercises you can try out, but first let’s talk about a few crystals that can amplify your ritual. Tiger’s Eye is by far the most popular and accessible grounding stone. A few others you can try are Black Tourmaline, Red Jasper, Hematite, Black Obsidian, Smoky Quartz and Shungite. Once you have completed a grounding ritual with one of these stones, carry it with you regularly to reconnect with the energy in between full ritual sessions.

Earthing

Connect your bare feet to the Earth. This is called Earthing and has been scientifically proven to do wonders for your physical health and mood. It is incredibly healing to take off your socks and shoes to feel the Earth beneath you. Think of it as plugging yourself in to recharge! Enhance this ritual even more by holding your favorite grounding crystal as you take a barefoot walk, run or simply stand with your feet planted on the ground.

Ground Wherever You Are

Sitting in a chair or on the floor with your grounding crystal in your hand, close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths. On your 4th breath, inhale into your belly, inhale again filling your chest, inhale a 3rd time filling your throat, then fully release your exhale through your mouth. Cycle through this 3 part breath to release stale energy from the body. When you feel relaxed, focus your attention on the feeling of the ground beneath you supporting your body. Visualize a red cord running through your spine and into the Earth below you, sending your old energy down and drawing revitalizing energy back to you. Breathe through this cord, holding your stone as long as you need. Tune into the sensations you feel through your body and journal about your experience after.
